Huawei’s New Tri-Fold Phone Is Here Meet the Mate XT2 Ultimate Design

Huawei just made its move in China, officially launching the Mate XT2 Ultimate Design on September 7, 2026. As the successor to the original Mate XT, this phone sticks with that eye-catching tri-fold design a screen that folds not once, but twice while packing serious upgrades to the chipset, durability, cameras, and battery.

Sales kick off in China on September 12, 2026, with pricing starting at 19,999 yuan (roughly Rp52.6 million) and climbing up to 29,999 yuan (around Rp79 million) for the top-tier configuration.

What’s Under the Hood: Huawei Mate XT2 Specs

Folded up, the Mate XT2 shows off a 6.5-inch OLED LTPO display running at 2,442 x 1,140 resolution with an adaptive refresh rate that scales from 1 to 120Hz.

Unfold it all the way into its full three-panel glory, and you get a massive 10.2-inch canvas at 2,232 x 3,184 resolution. The standard model tops out at 90Hz on the inner display, while the privacy-screen variant pushes that up to 120Hz.

Despite having three separate screen panels, Huawei managed to keep each section impressively thin just 3.5 to 4mm when unfolded. Fully folded, the whole device measures 12.3mm thick and weighs in at about 299 grams.

Powering everything is Huawei’s own Kirin 9050 Pro chip, paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB all the way to 2TB. It runs on HarmonyOS 7.0.

Durability got a serious glow-up too. The outer display uses Kunlun Glass, while the flexible inner screen relies on UTG (ultra-thin glass) tech.

Huawei claims the outer screen can now survive drops 30 times better than before, the inner screen’s impact resistance jumped 200%, and the hinge itself is 90% tougher than the previous generation. On top of that, the Mate XT2 carries both IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance.

On the camera front, you’re looking at a 50MP RYYB main sensor (1/1.28-inch) with OIS and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.49 to f/4.0. That’s joined by a 40MP ultrawide lens and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera (f/2.2) with its own OIS. Huawei also threw in its third-generation Red Maple color science to make photos look more true-to-life.

Battery-wise, the phone runs on a 5,600mAh cell supporting 66W wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging plus reverse wireless charging, so it can juice up other gadgets too.

Here’s a genuinely unusual bonus: the Mate XT2 comes with a built-in EKG feature. Just unfold the screen, hold both sides of the frame for about 30 seconds, and it’ll record your heart’s electrical activity and generate an electrocardiogram report.

Timing That’s Hard to Ignore

Huawei dropped this launch just two days before Apple’s big event on September 9. That timing isn’t a coincidence Reuters reports Huawei currently controls around 68% of China’s foldable phone market as of Q2 2026, and this new tri-fold is clearly meant to keep that lead solid while turning up the heat in the premium foldable race.
